I installed Laplink on my Windows 2000 server. When I rebooted the computer, it displayed a blue screen. To recover, I had to boot to Windows Safe Mode and uninstall Laplink. How can I use Laplink on this computer?

This conflict occurs when Laplink and another remote control application are installed. Many computers running Windows 2000 Server have Terminal Services installed, which has a remote control component.

If you are unable to recover the computer, see Technical Document 326: Windows NT or Windows 2000 does not Reboot after Installing Laplink.

To check for Windows Terminal Services

  1. From the Windows Start menu, click Settings and then Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Administrative Tools and then Services.

  3. Look for Terminal Services under Name.

  4. Close the Services dialog.
  5. .
  6. Click the Back button to return to the Control Panel.

If Terminal Services is installed

  1. Double-click Add/Remote Programs.

  2. Highlight Terminal Services and click Change/Remove.

  3. Reboot the computer when the Uninstaller finishes.

If Terminal Services is not installed, see Technical Document 213: Error Message: "Setup is Unable to Configure Remote Control Components" for more information.
