How do I configure the Firewall that is integrated into Windows XP SP2 to allow Laplink Gold connections?

The firewall that comes with Windows XP SP2 is configured differently than the Internet Connection Firewall of Windows XP SP1. Follow these instructions to configure the Windows XP SP2 Firewall.

  1. Open the Firewall control panel (Start -> Control Panel -> Windows Firewall).
  2. Click on the Exceptions tab.
  3. Click on the Add Program... button.
  4. Scroll down the list of programs and locate Laplink Gold 12.0 (or Laplink Gold 11.5).

Highlight the Laplink Gold entry (in this case Laplink Gold 12.0) and click on OK
NOTE: If you do not have an entry for the Laplink application, you should click the Browsebutton and navigate to the directory where Laplink was installed (usually C:\Program Files\Laplink Gold).
  5. You should be back in the Exceptions tab. Now click on the Add Port... button.
  6. Type in laplink for the Name and 1547 for the Port number. Ensure that TCP is selected. Click on OK.
  7. Windows XP Firewall is now configured to allow Laplink connections.
