QuestionWhat is Laplink Everywhere?

Answer Laplink Everywhere is software that makes it easy to browse and dynamically interact with files and Outlook data on a remote computer.

Once Laplink Everywhere is installed on the host computer, you can do the following from the guest computer using a Java enabled web browser:

  • View and respond to your Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express e-mail.
  • E-Mail files on the host computer (you can send the actual file or a secure link to the file).
  • Upload and download files to and from the guest and host computers.
  • Create, modify, or delete Outlook or Outlook Express data including Calendar, Notes, Tasks, and Contacts entries.
  • Delete files on the host computer.
  • Share data on the host computer with other Laplink Everywhere users.
  • Access multiple remote computers with a single user name and password.
  • Use Remote Control and operate your Host PC as if you were sitting in front of it.

QuestionHow does Laplink Everywhere work?

Answer Laplink Everywhere is simple and secure. When you install it on a computer with a live Internet connection, you register a unique user name and password with a secure Laplink web site. Each time you start Laplink Everywhere and leave it running on your desktop, it opens and maintains a secure, persistent connection to the Laplink server. If you are not sure whether or not Laplink Everywhere has established that connection, take a look at the Laplink Everywhere log. Click the All Activity icon in the console tree, and make sure the connection status is listed as Working.

When you want to access the remote Laplink Everywhere host from your browser go to, lle5.ll2go.com, and log in using the username and password you created when you installed the software on your Laplink Everywhere host computer. Once logged in to the secure Laplink web site it uses its connection to the remote Laplink Everywhere host to establish the link for you.

If the Laplink Everywhere computer is behind a firewall, you can still access the computer from a browser anywhere on the Internet. Why? Because your Laplink Everywhere host establishes an outgoing connection through the firewall to a secure Laplink server, which can then use that connection to send and retrieve data such as e-mail messages and files.

To secure your data, Laplink Everywhere uses 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption and accepts connections only from other Laplink Everywhere sources that can authenticate with a valid user name and password.

To ensure your privacy, Laplink Software does not disclose any information about any Laplink Everywhere user to any third party. Moreover, we do not store any user data on our servers. Instead, our servers request information from your computer, which responds with specially formatted data that our servers convert to data appropriate for your display device. In other words, our servers only retain your information for the few milliseconds it takes to generate data your browser can display.

On the browser side, no information about the Laplink Everywhere host computer is cached, and the browser is instructed to set the cache to "private" so that no other users can access your information.

QuestionHow do I install the Laplink Everywhere host on my computer?

Answer Install Laplink Everywhere on each computer you want to access over the Internet from a browser. The Setup program (available on a distribution CD or the Laplink web site) uses standard, self-explanatory wizards that guide you through the installation and configuration - just follow the directions on the screen.

When prompted, be sure to create a unique User Name and Password that the setup program can register with the secure Laplink web Site. Once registered, the User Name and Password uniquely identify you and the computers associated with you to the secure Laplink servers. If you install Laplink Everywhere on more than one computer, be sure to use the same User Name and Password each time.

QuestionCan I install Laplink Everywhere on more than one computer?

Answer Yes, you can install the Laplink Everywhere limited version on multiple computers. However, each full version Laplink Everywhere serial number is only good for one computer.

When installing Laplink Everywhere on multiple computers, be sure to use the same User Name and Password each time. That way, when you log into the secure Laplink Everywhere website, you can access all of your computers with a single username and password. For more details, please see the Laplink Everywhere License Agreement.

QuestionIf the Laplink Everywhere host is behind a firewall, can I still connect to it from anywhere?

Answer Yes. When the Laplink Everywhere host software starts up, it opens and maintains a persistent connection to a secure Laplink server, which resides outside of the firewall. When you attempt to access the Laplink Everywhere host computer with your browser, the Laplink server uses this connection to establish that link.

QuestionWhat information do users need before they can connect to a Laplink Everywhere host?

Answer Users must know:

  • Their Laplink Everywhere User Name and Password.
  • The Laplink Everywhere URL: lle5.ll2go.com

QuestionDoes case matter in User Names and Passwords?

Answer User Names: Not case sensitive.

Passwords: Case sensitive.

QuestionWhat services are available to users once they connect to a Laplink Everywhere host?

Answer Depending on what permissions they have, users can access one or more of the following services:

  • E-Mail - send messages, file attachments, or links to files. For more information, see What is the Laplink Everywhere E-Mail service?
  • File Transfers - upload and download files on the remote computers. For more information, see What is the Laplink Everywhere File Transfer service?
  • Remote Desktop - access your Windows desktop through Internet Explorer 6 & up.
  • Remote Desktop Search - Search for files on your remote computer.
  • Favorites - Get access to the favorites list on your remote computer.

QuestionWhat is the Laplink Everywhere E-Mail service?

Answer Use Laplink Everywhere e-mail services to:

  • Access any and all mail folders configured in your e-mail client as the default mail store. (The default can be a Personal Folder or an Exchange Mailbox.) To view the contents of a given folder or subfolder, just select it - Laplink Everywhere displays the contents of the folder or subfolder 20 messages at a time.
  • Send e-mail to any address your e-mail client can resolve.
  • Send a file attachment or a link to a file that the recipient can browse to, download, and save. When you send a link to a file, Laplink Everywhere embeds and encrypts certain user account information into the link to give the recipient access to your computer. By default the link expires after 30 days. To change the default number of days, open Laplink Everywhere on the host computer, click Configure, choose E-Mail, and then click the Options tab.

Are there any requirements?

  • You must have Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express installed and configured on the Laplink Everywhere host computer.
  • NT users running Microsoft Outlook: If the Laplink Everywhere host computer is not logged into the domain and you want to send mail from your browser, open Microsoft Outlook on the host computer, provide the authentication information, and then leave it running on the host.

QuestionCan I access two different e-mail addresses?

Answer Yes, since Laplink Everywhere accesses your Outlook data directly, you can access any account you have set up in your e-mail client.

QuestionDoes Laplink Everywhere access my Outlook data in real time?

Answer Yes. Any Outlook data you create, modify, or delete via Laplink Everywhere is immediately reflected in your Outlook client on your computer.

QuestionWhat is the Laplink Everywhere File Transfer service?

Answer Use the Laplink Everywhere File Transfer service to upload and download files on the remote computer, or delete files that are on the remote computer.

You can give users access to as few or as many folders or drives as you want. In addition, you can control what they can download or upload. For more information about how to configure access permissions to files, see Technical Document 1076: How to Set or Modify Access Permissions to Services and Files.

Are there any file transfer restrictions?

  • Each file transfer must be from one computer to the other. That is, you cannot copy or move files on a given computer to a different directory on the same computer.

QuestionCan I monitor activities on the Laplink Everywhere host?

Answer Yes. Laplink Everywhere logs detailed information that tracks all: Active Connections, E-Mail activities, File Transfers (uploads and downloads), and Connections. To access the Laplink Everywhere logs, open Laplink Everywhere, click View Logs, and then select the log of interest. The entries appear in the log pane.

QuestionI just purchased a subscription to the Laplink Everywhere service and it still appears to be a trial version. How do I move from a 30-day trial to a subscription?

Answer When the 30-day trial expires, and you purchase a Laplink Everywhere subscription, there is no need to reinstall the software or create a separate Laplink Everywhere account. All that is required is that you enter in your new serial numbers into your existing account.
