Document relates to: Laplink for DOS

SUMMARY

Any of the following messages can be displayed when there is not enough available RAM (Random Access Memory) to launch the program from Windows or DOS:

  • "The KB Required Value Is Too Large. Decrease PIF KB Required."
  • "There Is Not Enough Available Memory To Install The Program."
  • "Cannot Execute C:\LL5\LL5.EXE" (or A:\LL5.EXE if running from a Floppy diskette)

CAUSE

Laplink V/DOS's executable loads into the lower 640K (conventional RAM) area of memory and does not use extended memory. Laplink V/DOS requires a minimum of 465K (476,160 bytes) of conventional RAM to run. If there are other applications or utilities running, enough memory may not be available.

SOLUTION

With today's computers, these errors are easily resolved by running Laplink V/DOS after the computer is booted from a system or startup diskette. See Technical Document 718: How to Install and Use Laplink V/DOS to Rescue Data from a Computer for more information.
