SUMMARY

I install Laplink and receive this error message when the setup tries to copy files to the hard drive. What can I do?


CAUSE

Windows files updated by the Laplink Setup may be set for Read-only.


SOLUTION

  1. Use Search to locate these files: COMCTL32.DLL, MFC42.DLL, MSVCIRT.DLL, MSVCRT.DLL, MSVCP60.DLL.

  2. Confirm that only 1 copy of each file exists in \Windows\System32 folder.
  3. NOTE: Rename any other copies you find on the hard drive.

  4. Right-click each file and click Properties.

  5. Confirm that the Read-only Attribute box is not checked.
