How to Boot Windows in VGA mode

SUMMARY

I would like to boot my computer in VGA mode. How can I do this?


SOLUTION

Windows 95
Windows 98/ME

If your computer runs Windows 95:

  1. From the Windows Start menu, point to Settings and click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click the System icon.

  3. Click the Device Manager tab.

  4. Click to expand Display adapters.

  5. Highlight the listed display adapter and click Properties.

  6. Click to place a check next to Disable in this Hardware Profile or uncheck Original Configuration Current.

  7. Click OK.

  8. Close System Properties and restart the computer.


If your computer runs Windows 98/Millennium:

  1. From the Windows Start menu, click Run.

  2. Type MSCONFIG and click OK.

  3. Click the Advanced button.

  4. Click to place a check next to VGA 640 x 480 x 16.

  5. Click OK.

  6. Click OK and restart the computer.


If your computer runs Windows NT:

  1. Reboot the computer.

  2. Choose Windows NT 4.00 [VGA mode] when you see the message Please select the operating system to start....

  3. Press Enter.


If your computer runs Windows 2000:

  1. Reboot the computer.

  2. Press F8 when you see the message For troubleshooting and advanced startup options for Windows 2000, press F8 appear at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Highlight Enable VGA Mode.

  4. Press Enter.
