Desktop and/or Start Menu Program Shortcuts Do Not Work After Migration

After performation a migration with PCmover, the Desktop and Start Menu shortcuts were transferred over, but they do not work anymore. How do I fix this?


To repair broken shortcuts, you will need to do the following:

  1. Right-click on the shortcut that is not working.

  2. Click Properties.

  3. In the window shown below, verify that the "Target" and "Start in" sections are correct. You can do this by clicking on the Open File Location button (this will open Windows Explorer and automatically navigate to the location shown in the Target).

  4. If the location is invalid, you will get an error to that effect. When this happens, navigate to the proper folder, and copy the path from the address bar and enter it in the Target field in the above window. If the Start in box was empty, then leave it as is, otherwise enter the same path as the Target window, minus the exe file and leading slash (see above window as an example).
