SUMMARY

After installing Laplink Gold 2008 on a computer running a 64-bit version of Windows, the mouse and/or keyboard no longer work.

CAUSE

After installing Laplink Gold 2008 on a computer running a 64-bit version of Windows, the mouse and/or keyboard no longer work.

SOLUTION

Plugging a USB mouse and/or keyboard into the computer should allow you access to the computer again. At this point, you have two options:

  1. Uninstall Laplink Gold 2008.

  2. If you are familiar with editing the registry, you can remove the registry entry that points Windows to use our drivers. This should allow the PS/2 mouse and/or keyboard to function again.
    1. Click on Start -> Run (if Run is not present on the Start menu, you can hold the Windows key on the keyboard and press R to bring up the Run line).

    2. Type REGEDIT into the Run line, and press Enter (or click Ok). This will bring up the Registry Editor

    3. Scroll the left hand window all the way to the top left and single click on My Computer so it is highlighted.

    4. At the top, click on Edit -> Find.

    5. Type TSIKBF5 into the "Find what" box, and click Find Next.

    6. Windows will begin searching the registry. Once it stops, you need to look at the where it is. The entry we are looking for will be in the right hand wnidow, will be called "UpperFilter" and will likely have a data of "kbdclass tsikbf5". If you do not see that, then press F3 to continue the search until you find it.

    7. Right-click on UpperFilter and select Modify.

    8. Remove tsikbf5 from the list. Leave the rest of them there (usually only kbdclass) and click Ok.

    9. Repeat steps c thru h, using TSIMSF5 instead of TSIKBF5. This is the mouse driver and will show "mouclass" in the UpperFilter found for it. Only remove TSIKBF5. Leave everything else there.

    10. Unplug the USB mouse and keyboard and reboot the computer. If the normal mouse and keyboard still do not work, then you will either want to contact support for additional information and troubleshooting options or will need to uninstall Laplink Gold 2008.
