How to Completely Remove Laplink Products from the Hard Drive and the Windows Registry

SUMMARY

I need to uninstall PCmover, Laplink Everywhere, Laplink Gold, PCsync, or PDAsync. How can I be sure that the software is completely removed?


SOLUTION

To Uninstall PCmover

  1. Click on the Windows Start menu.
    -If Windows XP or older, click Run... and type Control Panel and press Enter.
    -If Windows Vista or newer, type Control Panel in the search field and press Enter.
     
  2. In the Control Panel:
    -In Windows XP or older, open Add/Remove Programs, and scroll down to find PCmover and click on it. Then click Change/Remove and follow the prompts to uninstall.
    -In Windows Vista or newer, click Programs and Features (Windows Vista), or, click on Uninstall a Program under 'Programs' (Windows 7), then scroll down to highlight PCmover, and then click the Uninstall button near the top of the window. Follow the prompts to uninstall.
     
  3. Open up Windows Explorer, and navigate to C:\Program Files\Laplink, and if there is a folder called PCmover, delete it.


To Uninstall Laplink Everywhere

  1. Remove Laplink Everywhere and Laplink Secure VNC (if present) using Add/Remove Programs (XP and earlier), Programs and Features (Windows Vista), Programs > Uninstall a Program (Windows 7) in the Control Panel (For Windows XP/Vista/7: Start > Control Panel. For all others: Start > Settings > Control Panel).

    NOTE:
     If you are unable to uninstall due to a message about Laplink Everywhere running, make sure Laplink Everywhere is not already running on the computer and then try the uninstall again. To do this, use either or both of the following methods:
    • Right-click on the Laplink Everywhere icon in the System Tray (down by the clock) and choose Exit.
    • If the above icon is not present, then we need to stop the Laplink Everywhere processes manually. Press CTRL - ALT - DEL to bring up the Task Manager, click on the Processes tab, click on Image Name at the top of the list to sort the list alphabetically, and End Process on each of the following items by clicking on it to highlight it, then clicking the End Process button near the bottom right, and click Yes to confirm. NOTE: Not all of these may be present. If they are not present, then just continue on to the next one.
      -ILLSecurity
      -LaplinkEverywhere
      -Any item that begins with LL (LLServerMain2, LLOpenDB, & LLEventLog)
      -ServerProxy
      -ServerProxyService
      -spserver
      -WSC

  2. NOTE: If you are still unable to uninstall, just continue with the instructions below.

  3. Reboot the computer.
     
  4. Right click on Start button and click on Explore. (In Windows 2000, XP, & Vista, this will open to your user profile by default).
     
  5. Above the Start Menu folder in your profile, click on the Cookies folder.
     
  6. Search for any @ll2go files and delete them.
     
  7. Under LOCAL DISK (C:) (or whichever drive you installed Laplink Everywhere) expand the Program Files folder. Delete any of the following folders, if they are present:
    • Laplink Everywhere
    • Laplink Secure VNC
    • OmniCom\winShadow

REMOVE REGISTRY ENTRIES:

NOTE: Before making the following changes, make a backup of your registry. See Technical Document 111: How do I Backup and Restore the Windows Registry for more information. Alternatively for Windows XP and newer users, see Technical Document 670: How to Create a Windows Restore Point.

NOTE: The automatic script below will remove all registry keys used by Laplink Everywhere and the new Remote Control 4 in Laplink Everywhere 4. The manual removal instructions only provide the steps to remove Laplink Everywhere. For advanced users who wish to delete the keys manually, save the .reg files below, right-click on them, and choose Edit to see the list of keys and values that are being removed.

AUTOMATIC REMOVAL OF REGISTRY KEYS:

  1. Click on the link below that matches the Windows version of the host computer:
  2. For computers running Windows 98, Windows ME, or Windows NTClick here.
    For computers running Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista, or Windows 7Click here.

  3. Select Run or Open when prompted.
     
  4. Click Yes to import the information into the registry.
     
  5. Click Ok to the message that it has completed the import.
     
  6. Restart the computer.

MANUAL REMOVAL OF REGISTRY KEYS:

  1. From the Windows Start menu, click Run, type REGEDIT and click OK.
     
  2. Click on the plus (+) beside HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
     
  3. Click on the plus (+) beside Software.
     
  4. Click on the plus (+) beside Laplink.
     
  5. Select the following sub-folders, and press the delete key. Choose yes to confirm deletion.
  6. -FoneFiles
    -ILLSecurity 
    -LLWebServer 

  7. Scroll back to the top of this window and click the minus (-) sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER to close it.
     
  8. Click the plus (+) sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
     
  9. Click the plus (+) sign next to Software.
     
  10. Click on the plus (+) beside Laplink.
     
  11. Select each of the following sub-folders (if it exists), and press the delete key. Choose yes to confirm deletion.
  12. · FWS
    · FWSRC
    · FWSLL
    · LLE5
    · LLWebServer

  13. Click on the plus (+) beside Microsoft.
     
  14. Click on the plus (+) beside Windows.
     
  15. Click on the plus (+) beside CurrentVersion.
     
  16. Click on the plus (+) beside Uninstall.
     
  17. Delete the {C26FFE21-5D48-11D6-BE4B-00E0811075DD} folder if it exists.
     
  18. Close the Registry Editor window.
     
  19. Restart the computer.


To Uninstall Laplink Gold

IMPORTANT: If you need to uninstall Laplink Gold 11 on a computer running Windows XP, see Technical Document 690: Uninstalling Laplink Gold 11 in Windows XP before proceeding.

  1. Click on the Windows Start menu.
    -If Windows XP or older, click Run... and type Control Panel and press Enter.
    -If Windows Vista or newer, type Control Panel in the search field and press Enter.

  2. In the Control Panel:
    -In Windows XP or older, open Add/Remove Programs, and scroll down to find Laplink Gold and click on it. Then click Change/Remove and follow the prompts to uninstall.
    -In Windows Vista or newer, click on  Programs and Features (Windows Vista), click on Uninstall a Program under 'Programs' (Windows 7), then scroll down to highlight Laplink Gold, and then click the Uninstall button near the top of the window. Follow the prompts to uninstall.

    NOTE:
    If the above uninstall fails or you cannot find it, just continue with the remaining 
    steps in this article.
     
  3. Open up Windows Explorer, and navigate to C:\Program Files\Laplink, and if there is a folder called Laplink Gold, delete it.

  4. Click on the Windows Start menu.
    -If Windows XP or older, go to Find or Search, and click Files or Folders
    In the Named field, type TSI*.*Make sure the drive with your program files (normally the C:\ drive) is in the Look In field. Click on the Search Now or Find Now button. It will take a few moments to search the hard drive for all files that start with TSI.
    -If Windows Vista or newer, type TSI*.* in the Search field at the bottom and hit enter, and click on 'See more results'.

  5. In the Search results window, Delete the TSI32 folder.

  6. For each of the remaining files, right-click on it and choose Properties.

  7. Click on the Version tab (if there is one).
    - If there is no Version tab, then cancel the screen and skip the file.
    - If the Company value contains Traveling Software or Laplink, click OK and then delete the file, otherwise, skip the file.
    - If you are unable to delete a file that is due to be deleted, note the file name and try it again after you have completed the “To clean your Windows registry” section below and rebooted the computer. If you are still unable to delete the file, contact Laplink Technical Support.

TO CLEAN YOUR WINDOWS REGISTRY:

  1. From the Windows Start menu, click Run (if Run is not present, hold the Windows key and press R to bring up the Run line), type REGEDIT and click OK.
    NOTE: Before making the following changes, make a backup of your registry. See Technical Document 111: How do I Backup and Restore the Windows Registry for more information. Alternatively for Windows XP and newer users, see Technical Document 670: How to Create a Windows Restore Point.
     
  2. Scroll the left pane to the top left and click My Computer so it is highlighted.

  3. From the Edit menu, click Find.

  4. In the Find what field, type LAPLINK and press Enter.
    NOTE: The Keys, Values, and Data box must be checked and the Match whole string only box must be cleared.

  5. The Registry is searched for the word LAPLINK. When the search stops and highlights a result, press Delete, click Yes to confirm the deletion, and then press F3 to find the next entry.
    NOTE: If you receive an error attempting to delete a registry key, see Technical Document 1055: Error deleting key.

  6. Repeat step 5 until the search reaches the end of the Registry.

  7. Repeat steps 2 through 6 using the word TRAVELING.

  8. Close the Registry Editor and reboot your computer.


To Uninstall PCsync

NOTE: The following is for PCsync versions 1, 2, or 3. To uninstall PCsync 5 and 6, simply use Add/Remove Programs (XP) or Programs and Features (Vista) or Programs > Uninstall a Program (7).

  1. From the Windows Start menu, go to Programs, and point to PCsync.

  2. Click Uninstall.

  3. Follow the screens and click Reboot when the Uninstaller has finished.

TO CLEAN YOUR WINDOWS REGISTRY:

  1. From the Window Start menu, click Run (if Run is not present, hold the Windows key and press R to bring up the Run line), type REGEDIT and click OK.
    NOTE: Before making the following changes, make a backup of your registry. See Technical Document 111: How do I Backup and Restore the Windows Registry for more information. Alternatively for Windows XP and newer users, see Technical Document 670: How to Create a Windows Restore Point.

  2. In the left pane, click My Computer.

  3. From the Edit menu, click Find.

  4. In the Find what field, type LAPLINK and press Enter.
    NOTE: The Keys, Values and Data box must be checked and the Match whole string only box must be cleared.

  5. The Registry is searched for the word LAPLINK. When the search stops and highlights a result, press Delete and click Yes to confirm. Press F3 to find the next listing.
    NOTE: If you receive an error attempting to delete a registry key, see Technical Document 1055: Error deleting key.

  6. Repeat step 5 until the search reaches the end of the Registry.

  7. Repeat steps 2 through 6 using the word PCSYNC.

  8. Close the Registry Editor and reboot your computer.


To Uninstall PDAsync

 

  1. Uninstall PDAsync using Add/Remove Programs (Programs and Features in Windows Vista or Programs > Uninstall a Program in Windows 7) in the Windows Control Panel.

  2. When the uninstall is finished, reboot your computer.

  3. If your PDA device is running Windows Mobile, uninstall PDAsync using the Remove Programs feature on the device.

  4. Using Windows Explorer, open the Program Files folder and confirm that the Laplink PDAsync folder has been removed. If it's there, delete it.

  5. Still in the Program Files folder, open the Common Files folder, and delete the XCPCSyncfolder.

  6. Delete the following folder: C:\Documents and Settings\Your Windows Username\Application Data\XCPCSync.OEM.
    NOTEYour Windows Username refers to the username you use to log into Windows. If you do not know what this is, you can normally find it by clicking on the Start button. It will be listed at the top in Windows XP and will be the top right entry on Windows Vista.

  7. Exit Windows Explorer.

 

TO CLEAN YOUR WINDOWS REGISTRY:

  1. From the Window Start menu, click Run (if Run is not present, hold the Windows key and press R to bring up the Run line), type REGEDIT and click OK.
    NOTE: Before making the following changes, make a backup of your registry. See Technical Document 111: How do I Backup and Restore the Windows Registry for more information. Alternatively for Windows XP and newer users, see Technical Document 670: How to Create a Windows Restore Point.

  2. In the left pane, click My Computer.

  4. In the Find what field, type Extended Systems and press Enter.
    NOTE: The KeysValues and Data box must be checked and the Match whole string only box must be cleared.

  5. The Registry is searched for the word Extended Systems. When the search stops and highlights a result, press Delete and click Yes to confirm. Press F3 to find the next listing.
    NOTE: If you receive an error attempting to delete a registry key, see Technical Document 1055: Error deleting key.

  6. Repeat step 5 until the search reaches the end of the Registry.

  7. Repeat steps 2 through 6 using the word  PDAsyncXTNDConnect, and XCPC.

  8. Close the Registry Editor and reboot your computer.
